What To Do in Subic: Explore the Nightlife!

Expats are a common sight in the different watering holes of Olongapo City. Barrio Barretto in particular, caters to foreigners. They have bars operated by foreigners. Most expats living in Metro Manila go to Subic to unwind and have a short vacation without worrying about the work that they will leave behind. If they need to go back to the city, they can do so in a couple of hours.

You can visit these popular bars and restaurants in Subic:

For some family entertainment, you can visit Times Square Cinemas located on Santa Rita Road near the SBMA Gate in Olongapo City. Times Square Cinemas is equipped with state of the art projection and audio equipment using Dolby Sound. Please note that the movies they show are not as updated as the ones in the city.

What To Do in Subic: Race!

If you're a race junkie, head out to the Subic International Raceway which was built in 1994 at the site of a US Naval base destroyed by Mount Pinatubo. Efforts to improve the site are constantly underway and because of these improvements, it gained FIM approval in 1997 and its grade four FIA license in 1998. The track is 2.8 kilometres in length with 12 turns and has a 12 metre wide bitumen surface. The Subic International Raceway is host to both local and international racing events.

What To Do in Subic: Scuba Dive!

Yes, you read that right! Most people associate scuba diving with Palawan. But for people and expats in the city, you need not go too far to enjoy a day under the sea.

There are a wide variety of wrecks as well as reefs in Subic Bay. There are wrecks from World War II and the remains of the Spanish American war wreck San Quintin can also be found there. Outside the bay, you can find the remains of a Spanish Galleon.

While some turtles can be found nesting on the beach, you have to be careful of some rays in the water. Before the Pinatubo eruption, numerous sea creatures were abundant in Subic. Hopefully, these creatures will go back to these waters soon.

And of course, as always, safety is key to enjoying your dive. Be sure to go with a certified instructor if you're not certified yourself and be sure not to leave your trash in the beaches. There are a number of certified resorts to choose from so choose wisely. Have fun!
